Methodology and formulas

AparatTo uses transparent optical and exposure formulas. A result is a planning calculation, not a measurement of a specific device.

Depth of field and hyperfocal distance

Hyperfocal distance H = f²/(N·c)+f. Focus limits derive from H, focus distance and focal length. Circle of confusion is an assumption tied to format and output.

Field of view and framing

Angle = 2·atan(sensor dimension/(2·focal length)). Frame size also depends on distance.

Exposure

After changing aperture and ISO, shutter time scales by (N₂/N₁)²·(ISO₁/ISO₂). An ND filter multiplies time by 2 to the number of stops.

Limitations

Lenses breathe, real transmission differs from nominal aperture, focus tolerance depends on output, and motion and stabilization vary. Always test.
